Today in New Delhi, the Tata Nano was unveiled to the public. The car, which seems like it will change the face of India and its economy, had been building hype for quite a while. One might ask: what is so important about this tiny little car. First of all, it is the cheapest car on the market today at approximately $2,500, giving it the nickname “The People’s Car.” To add to the excitement, it gets fifty miles to the gallon and even though it only has thirty-three horsepower it can still reach speeds up to sixty-five mph. But it is not the features of the car that is so astounding, but the fact that a very affordable car is now available to the relatively poor citizens of India. Transportation, which has always been an important part of a growing economy, will now be available to the masses in the form of a ten foot long, five foot wide car. It is also important to note that this is no concept car. Ratan Tata (isn’t that fun to say?), chairman of Tata Motors, said that these are “cars that will roll out of the Singur plant later this year.” With the new information I learned on our last blog, I am happy to see that there is another eco-friendly car coming out. Also, I believe that if India could become more developed and if its population could have a better quality of life, this product is worth its weight in gold, even though I doubt it weighs very much anyways.
India has recently revealed its high-tech car, the Tata Nano. This car was designed to make life in poor Indian areas much better by decreasing the price to an affordable one. Currently, the car’s value is 97,650 Rupees, or $2,500. This value has made it the cheapest car in the world, half the price of the previous cheapest car in India. Although its gas mileage is fantastic at 54 miles per gallon, its environmental impacts on India could be devastating. Currently, there are millions of Indians riding on scooters, broken down cars, and other means of transportation. If these people, and more, afford to buy the Tata Nano, there will be millions of new cars out on the road. This is why it is not the energy efficiency of the Nano that matters, but rather the number of consumers. This will make already crowded cities and streets even worse, filling up every possible space. As well as having environmental impacts, the Nano also has economic impacts. Recently, there have been more and more groups in many parts of India protesting the making and distribution of the Tata Nano because of the eviction of farmers for the building of factories. When these farmers are evicted from their farms, not only will food supplies decrease, but India’s economy could also suffer a major hit. The Nano’s cheap price and easy availability causes more people to buy it, but with its cost, producers would not make too much money, therefore building more and more cars. This could also lead to the exhaustion of natural resources such as oil and coal to power the factories and steel to produce the cars.
The new Tata Nano is an amazing scientific accomplishment; it can help India’s economy immensely mainly because they use very little fuel. India will not have to import as much fuel to keep their economy stable, this car is also very cheap compared to most cars. They plan to sell this vehicle for $2,500; this will make driving a luxury that the majority of the nation can afford. Their marketing scheme is “the people’s car, this idea seems to have been carried out very well, considering the price of the car. Obtaining a car will be easy for almost anybody because it is so much cheaper then the price of cars that we are used to. Even though the car’s price is cheaper, keeping the car should be cheaper as well because less fuel is needed to keep the car going. Many nations will want this car because of its fuel efficiency and the because of the cheap price that it is being sold for. Not only will this new car help with gas prices, but it will also help environmentally. This car is much smaller than the average car which can help reduce the amount of exhaust that comes from the car. The Tata Nano can help India’s economy because they will be able to export cars that will probably become very high in demand. New technologies can be used from the Tata Nano to help make other economies able to compete with the low prices and high gas mileage of the Tata Nano.
A car company located in India known as Tata Motors recently released their newest vehicle, the Tata Nano. This remarkable feat of fuel efficiency and compact design in a small package with seating for five is indeed an advancement in technology. Created entirely in India, it is one of the many models of affordable compact cars that Tata Motors has generated for the middle class in India. This new car is being welcomed as "The People's Car" because of its low price of 2500 dollars and is hoped to help those living in India with a chance to provide transportation for their struggling families. The car is extremely fuel efficient, getting about 54 miles to the gallon, and given its small size it is ideal for India's congested cities. However, this is also where the problems arise. By adding the projected one million cars to be sold in this year alone, Tata Motors will be increasing the carbon emissions in India immensely. Also the factories that the company has set up have uprooted many farmers and destroyed land. The fuel efficiency of the Tata Nano may not be enough to counteract the total carbon emissions over the years to come. Countries such as the United States and others in Europe resist this new automobile due to the safety issues and the fact that it does not meet all requirements. The car could definitely boost India's economy because of the sheer volume of people who will purchase the vehicle. Despite this encouraging news, the company has manufactured one million cars and it is not yet known if the demand will break even to rake in a profit for the company. As a developing country in the twenty-first century, India should be encouraging citizens to rely less and less on automotive transportation and reward new and innovative environmentally friendly inventions.
The new car, the Tata Nano, released by Tata Motors in India recently has become a topic of discussion globally. The Tata has stirred up great hype solely by the announcement of its price tag of $2,500. On top of being the world’s cheapest car on the market today, the Tata gets about fifty miles to the gallon. The Tata is marketed towards the increasingly growing India middle class and seats about five people. Although the use of technology to develop an environmentally safer car is a commendable achievement, imagine what India will look like ten years from now with the introduction of this low-cost that is now affordable to the majority of the Indian population. With an already large population of around 1.13 billion, the expected rise of low-cost cars in India will greatly affect the environment of India. Right now, Indian vehicles release 219 million tons of carbon dioxide. By 2035, that number is predicted to rise to 1,467 million tons due to the release of affordable cars such as the Tata. The cheaper vehicles are, the quicker pollution levels will increase. Other car companies are already drawing up plans for small cars and Tata Motors has planned to try to release versions of its car in other countries similar to India. Another issue is that India is known for having virtually no road rules and driving in populated areas of India is a chaotic, nerve-wracking experience. With the great increase of cars on the roads, which have not met European or United States safety standards, collisions and congestion in urban areas would become a major problem. Despite road safety concerns and the possible increase in carbon dioxide pollution, the Tata would significantly impact the lifestyles of poor Indian people since they would be able to afford a more reliable means of transportation than a motor scooter. This increase in mobility of Indian people could also greatly help the economy. Although many people have protested that the Tata will bring many negative effects worldwide, who are we, the drivers of massive, gas-guzzling SUVs, to say that poor Indian families should be denied the right to private transportation that we take for granted everyday?
The Tata Nano was released to the public last week in India, and the anticipation is building towards its sale date later this year. The car, which is similar to the smartcar released in Europe, may be a way to increase India's struggling economy and heighten transportation throughout the country. The car, which is only ten feet long and five feet wide, may make it easier for everyday citizens to travel and may increase the employment rate. The car is also extremely affordable, and is the cheapest car on the market today. Although it can't exceed speeds of 65 miles per hour, the car gets 50 miles to the gallon and is also the most eco- friendly car soon to be available to the public. Ratan Tata, who played a major role in the making of the car is extremely proud to have such an influence over the future of cars.
The Tata Nano is a very cheap car, over the past year, Tata has been building hype for a car that would cost a mere 100,000 rupees (roughly $2,500), and is helping many families that live in India by giving them a better way for transportation. The nearest priced competitor is the Maruti 800, which costs roughly twice as much as the Nano. It has been nicknamed the “People’s Car.” The four-door Nano is a little over ten feet long and nearly five feet wide. It is powered by a 623cc two-cylinder engine at the back of the car. With 33 horsepower, the Nano is capable of 65 miles an hour. The Nano will go on sale in India later this year with an initial production run of 250,000 a year. This will have a major effect on the environment. Pollution from this car will increase drastically. With a huge production of cars there will be more ways to pollute the air with gas used for the car. Even though the high fuel efficiency also ensures that the car has low carbon dioxide emissions, a large production of cars will harm the environment no matter what. But Mr. Tata feels that his car will help the environment. While presenting the Nano; “Today, we indeed have a People’s Car, which is affordable, and yet built to meet safety requirements and emission norms, to be fuel efficient and low on emissions,” Mr. Tata added. “We are happy to present the People’s Car to India and we hope it brings the joy, pride and utility of owning a car too many families who need personal mobility.” I do not believe that this is a good car to buy.
The much anticipated Tata Nano, also known as the “People’s Car,” was released to the public in India this week. The Tata Nano, costing a mere 100,000 rupees, ($2,500) is the world’s cheapest car so far. It was made for India’s lower middle class, so that mobility could be brought to tens of millions of people. Although this is great for the poor citizens, it will also make the roads impossibly crowded. With so many new drivers and vehicles on the roads, it will be difficult to get anywhere without becoming stuck in hours of traffic. The Nano will also have negative effects on the environment. Although the Nano is said to be an “environmentally friendly” car, averaging about 50 miles per gallon and emitting only 120 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer, the substantial increase in the number of people who own cars will have a negative effect on the environment. In 2005, Indian vehicles released 219 million tons of carbon dioxide, but with the ability of the expanding middle class to own cars because of cheap models such as the Nano, it is predicted that by 2035, Indian vehicles will release 1467 million tons of carbon dioxide! Since carbon dioxide is known to be the foremost greenhouse gas blamed for global warming, the Nano will be very damaging to the environment. Highly regarded U.N. climate scientist said, “I am having nightmares about the prospect of the low- cost car.” As well as affecting the environment, it will also have a mixed effect India’s economy because, since there will be so many more cars on the road, gas prices will skyrocket.
Tata motors unveiled the Tata Nano automobile in New Delhi recently. The Tata Nano is going to have more impact on the world than any other car in a long time; this is because of its excellent fuel economy (about 60 mpg) and its cheapness. The Tata Nano comes in at about 2,500 dollars which makes it the cheapest car in production in the world, it is being produced in India and will have a profound impact on its economy because due to its cost, many more people will be able to buy cars then ever before, its suggested that 65% more families in India will be able to afford a car. The other effect of the Nano will be on the environment, the Tata Nano gets about 60 miles to the gallon compare that to the goal of American mpgs, we hope to have 30 mpg as the average on 10 years, this car has double that, but along with the great fuel economy and cheap price means that many more people than ever before will be able to buy cars which could lead to higher gas emissions coming out of India then ever before, so it leads to a problem because even though it has great fuel economy, with so many Tata Nano's on the streets gas emissions will be worse than ever. Either way people are going to but cars so it is better to by the Nano than say a hummer if you are trying to protect the environment.
A new car was created in India called the Tata Nano. It only cost $2,500 U.S dollar but it is very small in size. It is only eleven feet long and 5 feet wide. The Tata Nano gets 54 miles to the gallon. It is also does not have many “luxury” accessories to go with it. You would have to pay more for air conditioning, fog lamps, and alloy wheels. The makers of the Tata Nano in India call it “the people’s car.” Is this new car really the “people’s car?” It was designed to decrease the number of crashes of two wheeled vehicles and give the average citizen the opportunity to buy a car. The Tata Nano negatively impacts India’s economy. Three quarters of the population only makes two dollars a day. The cost of the car is expensive for the average Indian citizen. Also an average citizen can only buy gas once every two months on their current salary. The Tata Nano also could lead to the exhaustion of natural resources such as coal and oil. They will need these natural resources to fuel the many cars and the factories to produce these cars. The Tata Nano will negatively impact the environment if the majority of the population drives these cars. India has a population over one billion people. Most of the population ride scooters or other means of transportation. If the majority of the population owns one of these cars, it will make cities even more crowded and it will increase pollution. Even if this new car is cheap and compact it does pose problems to India’s economy and environment. These factors should be evaluated before expanding sales of the Tata Nano.
This car is both good and bad for India’s economy. On the good side, it will build growth of the economy because of the car sales. Also if more people buy the car than more jobs become available at Tata Motors because the company will continue to grow in size. On the bad note, however, it may hurt some businesses. Local transportation companies might make all their money because the majority of India’s population doesn’t own a car, if more people buy this new cheap car than the less business these transportation businesses might get. This means that those companies would shrink so unemployment might all increase. If Tata Motor increases in size, however, due to a large amount of sales from the Tata Nano than the company will be able to hire a larger work force. The Tata Nano will not only have an effect on India’s economy it might have an effect on India’s environment. These new Tata Nano’s are without a doubt more fuel efficient than larger cars, and they also let out less emissions. However, if these new cars do sell for a price around $2,500 than they will become very affordable for the enormous population of India, and though this car may let out fewer emissions than other cars, it does still let out some amount emissions. With the massive population of India buying new cars and beginning to drive them than even the littlest amount emission turns into a enormous amount of emissions if a billion people (India’s estimated population) are driving. We already know that global warming is a fast growing problem, and this new spur in CO2 emissions coming from India could just drastically increase the problem of global warming. I believe that the Tata Nano is overall good for India’s economy, but it is bad for India’s and the world’s environment.
The Tata Nano was unveiled at this week’s Indian Auto Expo, this would not have been so amazing had the Nano not been a car that only costs 2,500 dollars, and looks quite like a toaster on training wheels. Regardless of its unattractiveness, the Indian public welcomed this car with open arms; they treated it as if it was a car god. Many people believe this car to be starting a revolution. India’s roads are very dangerous, most people in India own scooters because that is what they can afford, this car could change all that. Now even the poorest people of India could afford a car. Despite the benefits of the Nano for the public, many economists question whether this car could be profitable for the company with such low profit margins. For example, the day they unveiled the Nano, Tata’s stock fell 6 points. What Mr. Tata, the owner of the company, is attempting to do is something similar to Henry Ford. He is hoping to turn a profit margin by the sheer volume of people that buy the car. Different from these naysayers, the public, who loves the idea of an affordable car, believe it is a brilliant idea. One man, Mr. Mohammad Yameen, a toothless old man in dirty clothes that came to the Expo, said "It is a revolution, I want this car!” The lower and middle classes are responding very well to the Nano. This car on top of its miniscule price tag gets 50 miles to the gallon. This is something that not even our Mercedes or BMWs can attain without becoming hybrids, this car is a full on 2-cylinder gasoline engine. This car could change the face of India for years to come.
The tata nano car was unveiled in Dehli Auto Expo, and is the least expensicve car in the world. The car is 100,000 rupees, 1300 pounds (England currency), which is about $2600 and about 1600 euros if I were to estimate. It is known as the people’s car and can fit four to five people. It is extreme3ly small and many may find it unattractive. The small size of the car will benefit the environment. There are many people in India and many do not have a lot of money to afford an SUV type of car, like many of us have here in the United States. The price of the car is so inexpensive that many members of the emerging middle class will be able to afford one. Ratan Tata, company chairman hopes “. . . this changes the way people travel in rural India. We are a country of a billion and most are denied connectivity,” he said. “This is a car that is affordable and provides all-weather transport for the family.” It has an aluminum shell and a petrol engine. The car does not look very safe but it is cutting the amount of CO2 emissions. This car is sure to be very popular in India, however, at this point in time I do not think that the United States is ready for such a car.
The Tata Nano is a wonderful car, I CAN’T BELIEVE I WON IT. This car will help me keep my gas costs down. Averaging 50 miles per gallon this little aluminum car can make any amount of gas last. This car is not very large at all, somewhat resembling a Honda civic in idea, while it is not a high speed car at all. The highest speed this little buggy has hit is 65 miles per hour. The most impressive part of the new release of this is car is the amount of money it costs. The car costs a minute $2,500, a very small price to pay for a car with this type of efficiency. This car will help the Indian economy to make some money but also help the lower class citizens to keep some money and support the family. This car has received the amazing title “People’s Car” and the price makes American accessories look ridiculously expensive (which they are). So while Americans are watching theirs DVD’s in the nice new Lexus, Indians will be out buying this new car which will save them so much money. Also this new car, being so gas efficient, will help lower the amount of pollutants. If countries all over the world adapted this model of car, and become this gas efficient, then the problem of global warming will be well on its way to being better.
Recently in India, Tata Motors revealed the Tata Nano, a small car that is affordable and safe for the environment. With the low price of $2,500, many families in India will no longer have to rely on a bicycle or motorized scooter as their only mode of transportation. Not only is this car affordable, it is also very safe for the environment since it has a lower pollution level than scooters being manufactured in India today, and its fuel efficient engine ensures that the car has low carbon dioxide emissions. While this car is beneficial to the environment, will it have a positive or negative impact on India's economy? This question can be answered in two different perspectives: the consumer and the producer. In the perspective of the consumer, this car would be a positive asset to the economy due to its low price, and it will be a very popular car on the market because it gets over 50 miles to the gallon and requires little fuel. The producer, however, may think otherwise. If this car becomes one of the most popular cars on the market, the demand will increase, and the price of the car will gradually decrease. As a result, overproduction will occur, and the company may not make as much money as it intended. Since this car requires very little gas, oil companies would sell less oil, and they would also suffer. The Tata Nano can have positive and negative effects on the economy.
The Tata Nano is one of the world cheapest cars available, only costing about $2500. The car is affordable to India’s middle class, making transportation easy. The four-door Nano is a about 10 feet long and 5 feet wide. It is powered by a 623cc two-cylinder engine at the reat of the car. With 33 horsepower, the Tata Nano is able to reach a speed of 65 miles an hour. Its four small wheels are at the absolute corners of the car to improve handling. There is a small trunk, big enough for a duffel bag. It is believed that the selling of these cars will clog up the roads in India. The Tata Nano is beneficial to India because it gives jobs to the India people.
Environmentally sound, inexpensive, and great on gas? No this isn't a phony advertisement thanks to, "The People's Car" this now actually does exist. In New Delhi the Tata Nano was recently introduced at a price of 2,500 dollars this car is not only cheaper in buying price (a quarter of the price of typical cars) but it runs great on gas as well. This will put India on the map from an economic standpoint; encouraging them to create newer and improved models increasing the competition and possibly lowering the prices of cars even further. Good for us but not to so much for the industry. This will also cause our nation to rethink it's less eco-friendly and pricey cars.
